Green Biologics’ Demonstrates Commitment to GreenFlame® Brand with Hearth, Patio & Barbeque Association Membership

Ashland, Virginia and Abingdon, Oxfordshire U.K. (November 28, 2017) – Green Biologics, Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Green Biologics Ltd., a U.K. industrial biotechnology and renewable chemicals company, announced that they have joined the Hearth, Patio & Barbeque Association to further display their commitment to GreenFlame® and the natural clean-burning lighter fluid that the brand is best known for. As a member of the association, Green Biologics will have the opportunity to promote the sustainable make-up of its lighter fluid within this sector, network with peers, and gain valuable industry knowledge into consumer trends shaping the market. In 2018, Green Biologics’ GreenFlame® brand will be exhibiting at the organizations leading HPBA Expo in Nashville, where it had been previously named a top product last year.

“Joining the Hearth, Patio & Barbeque Association will further bring attention to the benefits of our GreenFlame brand and the future products we plan to introduce under this label,” said David Anderson, Global VP of Marketing at Green Biologics. “This membership allows us to help elevate the patio and barbeque industry’s standards by transitioning those within it away from using fossil-fuel based products to sustainably-made home fuels that are healthier to use, with the same performance.”

As consumers are becoming increasingly concerned with chemicals in their everyday lives, the grilling and barbeque industry has a demand for a product that does not contain the potentially harmful byproducts associated with petroleum-based products. To fill this need, Green Biologics, launched GreenFlame® Charcoal Lighter Fluid earlier this year. This product is a USDA BioPreferred certified cleanburning charcoal lighter fluid that uses n-butanol as a key component, which is produced via a patented fermentation process at Green Biologics’ commercial facility in Little Falls, Minnesota.

With traditional lighter fluids, made from petroleum distillates, an excessive amount of black smoke is generated when the charcoal is lit. This leaves residue on the food being prepared, which directly impacts the consumer’s taste and health. However, since the lighter fluid under the GreenFlame® brand is bio-based, it produces minimal smoke and odor for a healthier, more enjoyable grilling experience that produces better tasting food. The benefits of GreenFlame® have not gone unnoticed. In addition to being recognized as a top product at the Hearth Patio & Barbeque expo earlier this year, GreenFlame® was recently named a finalist in Bio-Based World News’ Americas Bio-Based Product of the Year.

Green Biologics is also a member of the American Chemistry Council (ACC), and its commercial facility, Central MN Renewables LLC, participates in the ACC’s Responsible Care® program. With consumers generally sceptical about “green” claims, Green Biologics is aligning with the standards of the most credible organizations within the industry and getting the appropriate certifications to show our commitment to our sustainable claims. As such, the company’s n-butanol and acetone have received 100 percent bio-based, USDA BioPreferred® certification.
